May 2010

May was a big month for us. We celebrated Christmas with the Herman's at La Quinta, Julian started eating solids, and I went back to work.

Luckily Mina and Popup (Grandma & Grandpa Herman) have been so helpful and are taking care of Julian while we are at work. The first day back was very difficult for me (lots of tears) but it was very reassuring knowing he was safe with them.

This is the 2nd year we have gone to La Quinta to celebrate Christmas with the Herman's. It was tough to get everyone's schedule to work, but we made it happen. Rick, Julian and I went out Thursday and were able to maximize our pool time on Friday, before the masses arrived for the weekend. Everyone else arrived throughout the weekend and we were able to get everyone together for a nice dinner on Saturday night at The Hogs Breath Inn, which is Clint Eastwood's restaurant in La Quinta.

Julian liked being able to lay around in nothing but a diaper.
Julian and cousin Jacquie sat together at dinner.

Julian had his 4 month check up and got some vaccines, and a clean bill of health. At his check up he weighed in at 16 lbs 12 ounces, and 25 inches long. When I asked the doctor how Julian compares to other babies his age Dr. Cohen responded, "he's huge!".

Dr. Cohen said we should probably wait another week or two to start solid foods, but when I told him that Julian stares at us as we eat, he said it's probably better to start sooner than later. We waited until the end of that week (about 4 1/2 months) and then gave Julian rice cereal. He has since moved on to homemade pureed green beans, carrots, sweet potatoes, apples and bananas. The only thing he hasn't liked so far was the squash. But Rick and I tried it and we didn't like it either.

Julian is almost 5 months old and barely fitting into 6 month clothes. Luckily we got a photo of Julian in the onesie that Tina P. brought back from NYC.
